Active Play- A Joint Initiative between Country Health
SA and the Hawker Area School.
Hawker Active Play Philosophy:
• to encourage the healthy
development of children
through play activities by supporting children's fine and
gross motor skills as well as language and literacy.
• to be an effective strategy to address inadequate
development in our rural children.
• Active Play is conducted at Hawker Area School
providing a venue for health promotion activities as well as
Outreach visits from Allied Health Professionals, who work
with the community to identify their needs.
Classes operate 3 times a week during school terms for
Birth - 5 years, Kindergarten and Junior Primary Students.
Children and students develop their fine and gross motor skills
through applied obstacle courses incorporating balancing, climbing,
crawling, rolling, jumping, catching and tumbling skills, fine gross
motor skills applied through beading, sculpting, drawing and other
developmentally appropriate activities.
Hawker Active Play not only focuses on physical fitness involving fundamental movements but incorporates health, active living,
cognitive learning and intellectual processes, enhancing their social,
emotional, physical and intellectual development in a safe, secure
Active Play sessions and activities have been aligned to
Travel Claims- for all remote and isolated families (more than 5
kilometres from the school) there is an opportunity to claim for
Hawker Active Play- Learning, Playing, Supporting Families.
